WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TORQUE AND HORSE POWER......

THIS IS ALL FACT NOT OPINION!

DID YOU KNOW....
Let me explain.... (Assuming all bikes weighed and handled exactly the same)

Example 1.
Bike A has 100 HP @ 16,000 rpms.
Bike B has   50 HP @ 8,000 rpms.
Bike C has   25 HP @ 4,000 rpms.

Which bike is faster A, B or C?
It is a trick question. Their are all exactly the same torque!!!

Horse Power is simply [TORQUE] times [RPM] divided by [5252]
Since you multiply Torque times Rpm, if the rpm is twice as high it will double the horse power but the torque is still the same. And torque is how much power is generated to turn that crank and sprocket.

So why do they sell HP ratings instead of Torque rating? Well if one manufacture advertises their bike as 155 HP and the other advertises as 78 Torque, which sounds better to someone who doesn't know what this formula is?

Example 2. STOCK bikes.
The 2004 Yahmaha R1 is a perfect example because it has 150 HP @ 12,700 rpms rear wheel and the 2004 GSXR 1000 has 148 HP @ 11,000 rpms rear wheel. So the Yamaha sounds faster. It's not. The Yamaha R1 is putting out almost 5-6 less torque. That is a HUGE difference in power for a bike. The Yamaha R1 goes up higher in the rpms and that makes the HP number higher but in actuality the R1 is less power. And if the 2 bikes go side by side the GSXR 1000 will pull away faster. If you were comparing torque, the Yamaha has 71.13 Tq and the GSXR has 76.80. Now you can compare. Very different isn't it.

Ok but what if you don't know the Torque? Lets convert HP in to Torque (5252 x HP) / RPM
Formula to convert HP in to Torque.
[5252] times [HP horse power] divided by [RPM] = TORQUE


How to find the HP  Horse Power is simply [TORQUE] times [RPM] divided by [5252]
